The idea of an overlap comes from the fact that generation is not precisely defined in terms of beginning and end. But the way that the WT has used this to drag out the "this generation will not pass" idea is clearly a misuse. We do not belong to our parents' generation or to our children's generation.

Judicial Meeting
by Kool Jo inso here you are...sitting with a couple of elders at judicial meeting, and you're asked the following question:.
"do you still believe that the fds is the channel that jehovah is using"?.
now is it possible to answer 'no' without being df, or how would you answer that question?.
-
Rob Crompton
LIke skinnedsheep said, you could always say you are praying about it. Trouble is, Jehovah would give you the answer through his faithful and discreet servant. So the FDS is whoever claims to be the FDS. Simples. :)

scam job or real??
by Aussie Oz inmy wife got the following message on facebook.
(she is an artist) screams scam to me but hell...every artist wants more exposure dont they?
i think they are just name dropping in the hope of what?.
-
Rob Crompton
This has scam written all over it! Established companies don't approach potential artists/writers in this way. And they don't describe themselves as "an international Record comany". They say who they are. And they approach you by saying something like, "We like the work you did for such-and-such... May have an opening that would interest you..."

Can you suggest any free Plagiarism software
by His Excellency indo you have suggestions for any free plagiarism checker.
-
Rob Crompton
Aside from using detecting software, look out for the kind of typos which no human writer is gong to make - this can be a giveaway that someone has been using OCR software to incorporate material scanned from elsewhere. For example, I one had to edit thesis written by a Muslim student in which the Words Ocean and Islarn appeared where Q'uran and Islam were obviously intended. Add to this that these typos appeared in a section completely frree of the grammatical mistakes made elsewhere, and it was clear what the guy had been up to!
Once you learn to spot this sort of thing, itbecomes fairly easy to recognise when something has been lifted from someone else's work - and that's when running it through the plagiarism checker software will identify the source.

There were quite a few of these way back when I was in it.

Is it disrespectful to call God by his name?
by BU2B inthis seems to me to be yet another flawed reasoning from the wt.
god is supposed to be jw's "father".
it always seemed a bit strange even when i was mentally in, the argument they used to support using the name jehovah.

"Regards the word Abba, I have been told it is an intimate term, more like "Daddy" Can anyone verify this?"
This is commonly stated among many Christians but I believe it is mistaken. The word "Abba" has a range of meaning and whilst it is true that in one usage it was sometimes an intimate form of address, at the other end of the spectrum it was term ofthe highest respect. At the time of Jesus "Abba" was beginning to be used as a title for the most senior rabbi and I believe it is this usage which Jesus objected to. Among rabbis - teachers - all should be regarded as equals and the term "Abba" should be reserved for God alone. So when Jesus addresses god as "Abba" he is not calling him Daddy, he is addressing his as the supreme spiritual leader - i.e. as god.

"Your very presence in the ministry gives a powerful witness to observers."
A powerful witness? Really? Whenever I have seen them in the door to door work in recent years they have all be moving so incredibly slowly that the immediate impression any observer will form is that these folk really do not want to be dong this. Add to this that they will often (around here, at least) wait for ages on your doorstep before ringing the bell - or even walk away without having rung or knocked. A very powerful witness indeed!
